About the Firm
Why I started Volf Law
Some people say, in relation to life, that you should not look in the rearview mirror. I disagree. I believe that it is important to understand and remember where you come from. I believe that the lessons learned from, and the reminders of, your past (i.e., both good and bad) are part of where you are going. Ignoring those lessons and reminders may lead you down the wrong path.
I come from a family of blue-collar workers. My grandfathers served in the military. One was from Angels Camp, California, and the other, originally from Oklahoma, retired, along with his family that worked the oilfields, in Kilgore, Texas. They preached and expected hard work; nothing less, and often more. I still have fond memories of spending time with, and working for, them. Although working for them was not always easy, they set the foundation for my values of hard work, loyalty and integrity. Those values were later reinforced, and instilled in me, by my father, to whom I am forever grateful. Of course, behind every strong man is a strong woman, and, thus, I owe a debt of gratitude to my grandmothers, my mother and my wife.
I grew up outside of Houston, Texas. When I was growing up, I held jobs in the construction and restaurant industries, and I owned a business painting parking lots to help pay my way through college at Texas A&M University. Upon graduation from college and at the urging of a college professor, I decided to attend law school. While in law school at South Texas College of Law, I worked at a couple of different law firms, and I interned at the First Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas and for a federal magistrate in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.
